The Winter's Tale is a gothic fairy tale with a surprising ending.  Deliberately fantastical and strange, it is a mixture of tragedy and comedy, romance and folk tale.  Jealousy and compassion, reconciliation and regeneration collide with the harsh sexual politics of patriarchal society.
